2007
June 02/2007: We have begun to dig up the yard! I really wish I'd thought to take pictures before we started working on it... imagine more and bigger weeds and beercans! The giant Tide box - my mom mailed me a garden gnome in it, and now I'm using the box to collect the garbage I'm finding as I dig through the yard. I'm finding a crazy collection of bits and pieces of crap...
June 02/2007: These are the plants we've acquired so far, planted among some paving stones I found at the other end of the garden. Also, half of a crescent-shaped raised bed I'm making for growing melons. I found the stones on the other side of the garden as well - there's all sorts of stuff around, cinderblocks and concrete and that broken fence back there... it's just not broken enough for me to be able to get it out of there!
June 03/2007: Yay! One of our first strawberries. (Fragaria sp.)
June 09/2007: Earthworm love! This was about 5am, I was up early to go to a work event, and I caught these two at it. Luckily my ride was late so I had time to do a photoshoot :) They didn't seem to notice...
June 13/2007: A ladybug hangs out on a borage flower. (Borago officinalis) The borage is also a big hit with the bees - it just keeps putting out massives of these lovely blue flowers.
September 18/2007: Our front door. We have masses of vines and bindweed growing up the outside wall, and huge blackberry bushes... I thought it would be a cool idea to train the blackberries into a little archway. The problem... they are very thorny! Kind of nasty actually. But worst of all... THEY DIDN'T MAKE ANY BLACKBERRIES. Unforgivable! There's no way anything is allowed to take up that much room in my garden, cause me that many scrapes, and not give me any damn berries. Next spring... I am declaring war on the blackberries.
